Brother Steven A. Chase

 -1997-

A master's job is never done, it lives on through the ages.

The annual Installation of Officers was held on December 15, 1996 and the Organist for the Installation was Ann Wallace. The newly installed Master expressed his gratitude to the many people responsible for the days events. Dinner was served in the dining hall following the ceremonies.

In January the Lodge was moving at a frantic pace. It was decided that the Lodge join the local Chamber of Commerce and was passed by motion and vote. In February a report was given by Bro. Alan Burnham about the Crab Feed and he was reminded that he had been preparing this dinner for 12 years and he got a big round of applause for his efforts.

A report on the inactive candidates meeting was given and it was announced that 21 candidates had shown up and all were eagerly looking forward to advancing. Bro. Bob Lewis announced that 83 certificates had been delivered to the schools in the month of February.

On March 13th a 50-year pin was presented to Bro. John Ivan Polson Jr., Bro. Polson's father was a Past Master of Clovis Lodge and their family had been in Clovis Lodge almost since its inception. A report was given on the Crab Feed and it was reported that there were 129 in attendance and that there had been a sing-a-long with Ann Wallace.

In April there was a 50-year presentation to Bro. Hugh Polson a cousin of Bro. John Polson who had received his the month before. In May there was a report on the annual Cowboy Dinner with 101 people in attendance. This was the Mountain Oyster feed of yesteryear and it has since turned into a full fledged event. Also 50-year presentations were made top Bro. William David Holston and Bro. George Allen Levy. It was also reported that the work parties were going to start again...there goes our summer hehehe.

In June a delegation came from Las Palmas-Ponderosa Lodge to collect the traveling gavel that had been made by the Master of Clovis Lodge. However it wasn't there and the Master promised that he would deliver it to them as quickly as possible.

In July there was a 50-year presentation to Bro. Eugene McCrory. And in August it was announced that Bro. Bob Lewis, Secretary of Clovis Lodge, was recovering at home after having heart surgery and was planning to come back to work in September. Man what some guys will do to get a summer vacation! hehehe

In September there was a 50-year presentation to Bro. George W. Kastner. Bro. Sean Rutledge gave his 1st degree proficiency and the move to the fast track was on! hehehe He received his 2nd degree on the following Thursday night.

On November 1st, Bro. Sean Rutledge received his 3rd degree. The lodge would never again be the same! hehehe I mention this because Sean and I are the Web Masters here at www.clovislodge.com and I figured after the amount of hours and dollars we have poured into this web site we were due getting our names mentioned a few times. hehehe The last stated meeting of the year went at a fast and furious pace. There were a lot of book keeping items passed to close out the year.

It is worth noting that during this time we were receiving a lot of applications for degrees and that the Grand Lodge had passed a resolution shortening the proficiencies, it opened a flood gate of degree activity.

Brethren lost in this year were Bro's. Robert Lee Cowger, Forrest Albert Horton, George Levie Hunter, Jerry Lovon Lewis, Clarence McLain Lockhart, Sheridan Emuel McAllister, Raymond Edward Moll, Glenn Clayton Mullowney, John Henry Pickford, Harold Edward Smith, Robert Samuel Smith Jr. and Charles Thomas Wagner.
